Our Story

SummerWine is a woman-owned wearable tech startup committed to making periods better, safer, and more empowering for women worldwide—whether in developing or developed regions. Our current focus is on revolutionizing menstrual care with innovative lingerie prototypes that enhance comfort and protection during menstruation.

Our founder began the journey with period underwear in 2018, after trying various options on the market and feeling unsatisfied with their construction, breathability, and design. Existing products on the market made her feel frumpy and uncomfortable, which led her to iterate on the period underwear she already had, aiming to make them better. In 2022, she worked with a seamstress in Bali to create handmade prototypes, testing them personally for almost a year and a half. This hands-on process, coupled with a strong desire to focus on research and development (R&D) to make periods better and more comfortable, fueled her decision to start SummerWine—a brand that would not only focus on product innovation  but also ensure period underwear could be more accessible, hygienic, stylish, and comfortable without compromising on aesthetics.

Incorporated in 2023, SummerWine was born after our founder incubated with the Singapore Fashion Council's The Bridge Fashion Incubator, where she further refined the product vision and prepared the brand for its official launch. For years, our founder has been bootstrapping the brand, dedicating herself to perfecting our construction and design through extensive R&D and testing, this of which we will still continue to focus on. Now, we're excited to finally launch SummerWine and invite you to join us on our journey. We are currently looking to raise funds through our upcoming Kickstarter campaign to help us develop fabric blends with an anti-UTI coating (patent pending). This fabric will moisturize and provide comfort to intimate areas during menstruation, helping to reduce the risk of UTIs and alleviate related discomfort.

Please note: The pre-order product images on our site are based on our founder’s original prototypes. As we refine our designs for production, some details—such as the lace design—may vary depending on availability. We will make every effort to ensure that the final product meets the high standards of quality, comfort, and style that you expect. We are accepting pre-orders for our current prototypes (super comfy and stylish!) but we are also preparing for our exciting Kickstarter campaign launch soon which will include the next iteration of the product with our various proprietary fabric blends incorporating our patent pending coating.

In addition to product development, SummerWine is passionate about addressing period poverty and challenging societal stigmas surrounding menstruation. We are proud to collaborate with the Sky is The Limit (Nepal) on their Red Amber Project. Together, we aim to provide sustainable solutions and education for women and girls, ensuring they have access to the resources and support needed to manage their menstrual health with dignity and confidence.
